How to find keywords to gain traffic and possible clients to increase sales

Novices to website design and to SEO typically understand that there is a need for keyword integration on the site, but may find that the implementation of using such words to be a bit problematic. How should keywords be added, how can a person identify keywords, and what tools can be used to help with the process. Here are a few strategies which will help you to identify and create keywords to drive traffic to your site, increase your subscription list/ viewing list, and maximize the potential of your site to make sales.

Buyer keywords

Choose the right keywords

Strategy Number One: Make long-tail keywords

One of the best ways to drive traffic to a site is with long-tail keywords. Long-tail keywords differ from the generic keywords in that they are more specific to the products and services being offered. Why is this beneficial? When thinking about the extensive amount of webpages available under a certain genre, it is quite likely that those sites will have the same generic keywords. For example: if you have the world “Shoes” in your site, it is compared against all the other sites  which have “shoes” (whether that is shoe sales, shoe reviews, horse shoes, show laces, etc). However, if you have “ Buy therapeutic gel soled shoes” the competitor site numbers are minimized.

An e-commerce site must have a potential list of keywords at hand prior to using a keyword search tool. Where you can get a list of words which are popular in SERPs, they may or may not fit your business or targeted audience. Buyer keywords must cater not only to the search engines, but also to the potential buyer.

Strategy Number Two: Use Google Keyword Planner

As google is a major part of SEO, it would behoove the individual to use their product to find keywords of value. This can be accomplished by using the Google AdWords KeyWord Planner. There are other search engine tools which can be used, and for those you may have to pay a fee, but even with such paid services, I would encourage you to use this program. For the beginner it is intuitive. The steps are:

  • Input your Product or Service (Such as Residential Home Design)

  • Type in your landing page

  • Select your product category

Once such information has been added you can then select from a list of variables such as comparing your product or service keyword to competitor domains. When you click on the get ideas button, you will receive keyword ideas, average monthly searches, and the level of competition. Keep in mind that the lower the competition the higher your keyword will be in the SERPs. However, if the keyword is too unique you may limit yourself to a smaller market. Find a balance.

Strategy Number Three: Check Popular Buyer intent words

Sites which are oriented to buying are a bit different from the average article or blog site. Because the viewer is typical already interested in the product or the services being offered, directing the intent buyer to the page is critical. Using words such as Bargain (with your product or services), Buy, Purchase, Get, Download, Acquire, and such call to action words increases your SEO for the product. Again, you will want to use a keyword analytics program to verify the popularity of the search. If using WordPress it is advised that you use their keyword generator alongside the google adsense or paid for keyword adwords planner.

Strategy Number Four: Get an outside, unbiased analysis of your site

One of the best ways to find buyer keywords is to have an SEO professional look over and analyze your site. Yes, you will spend a bit of money for this service, but there is a huge reward. SEO experts know the strategies to get sales, they also know what NOT to have on a page. Ensure that your SEO report shows your strengths and your weaknesses as well as the target market. It does not good to boost the SEO of the site if the keywords deter the potential buyer from your services.

Strategy Number Five: Don’t forget the local market

Where online keyword generators, SEO and Keyword analytics, and such are valuable in securing an increase in traffic and higher sales, do not forget to target locally. Local keyword text will help your page’s SEO as well as increase the margin of buyers. Google, Bing, and Yahoo have a separate way of searching for local businesses then the standard algorithm. Think of it this way. There are two file cabinets. The first has general information about a particular service which anyone can access. However, there is a second file cabinet which has information about the best businesses in that area. When a person from the area needs to have a product or service which cabinet do you think will be accessed first, the one with millions of files or the one with a smaller amount of data to weed through?

A quick review

To summarize, keywords need to be specific to the seller of the products and services. This means getting away from the generalized keywords and creating strands of value and relevance. Secondly, potential strands need to be compared to the actual search engines to validate that such a phrase is searchable and searched. Thirdly, a site should be evaluated for SEO and keywords by a professional to boost buyer keywords and increase traffic. Finally, buyer keywords should not be limited to the World market but should target local business in order to show up on local business searches and localized SERPs.

Most importantly, the novice to keywords must understand that it takes work and dedication. Keywords will change and evolve and so a constant eye on trends is vital. Those which implement good strategies and are diligent see a return on their efforts.
